Spec Project for a Fictional Book Store
Client: Books4You helps make buying textbooks more affordable for students.
Target Audience: Undergraduate and graduate students aged 18–26. College is expensive, and they're always looking for simple ways to save or make money.
Challenge: Encourage students to visit the Books4You website and use the Buy-Back Program to sell their old books.
Tone: Fun, friendly, straightforward, helpful.
Strategy: I positioned the Buy-Back Program as a fast, hassle-free way for students to make extra money. The copy leads with quick-hit benefits and addresses concerns about cost and effort right away. A playful salutation and emojis keep the tone student-friendly, while a secondary CTA in the postscript (“tell your friends”) helps amplify reach.
Placed inside the cover of each physical book ordered, the letter reaches students at just the right moment — when they’re likely replacing older books with new ones.
